Question by Sol Bird: What did Jesus mean in this Bible verse?
“Do not think I come to spread peace, for I come to turn the son against the father, the daughter against the mother, the mother-in-law against the daughter-in-law, the father-in-law against the son-in-law.”
Was Jesus saying that he came to literally destroy families or was it a more symbolic meaning? I don’t understand, please enlighten me.

Jesus was saying that, even in a family, divisions would be caused by those who are for Him and those who are against Him.
You can see, even on this forum, the heated debate over who Jesus is. In essence, Jesus said this debate would divide families. There is no middle ground to be taken about who you say Jesus is. And it may cost some people quite a lot.
